Zollhaus Ruhland – to kiss alive a sleeping beauty
Ruhland is a small town of 3.700 inhabitants in “Upper Lusatia” (Oberlausitz) in southern Brandenburg. The CVJM (YMCA) Ruhland has already been active here for twenty years, but only since 2015 it has taken up residence in the legendary customhouse Ruhland (Zollhaus Ruhland). In this former beat club, which was well-known far beyond the Spreewald region, the CVJM wants to open an educational and community centre in corporation with the club “Verein-t im Zollhaus e. V.” As a first step, in summer 2016 an EYS work camp supported the project with help and energy.
In order to create a more attractive and inviting atmosphere in and around the customhouse a number of necessary repairs and works on the buildings and the surroundings still need to be done: Therefore, camp participants will pull down, build, paint, dig and eventually remodel. Participants will work for six hours per day, e.g. from 8 am to 2 pm, but of course there will be breaks, too.

You will stay at the customhouse where there is a hall and a games room with table tennis, billiards, foosball, darts and board games. In addition, the garden offers a lot of space to relax and chill. For group activities the town of Senftenberg and the Senftenberg lake country offers a great opportunity to go hiking, swimming or cycling. Other tourist attractions can be found in Cottbus and the baroque old town of Dresden, both easily accessible via the A13. We will not only do excursions, but also do group activities depending on your interests and your ideas. We are happy if you bring with you games, songs, music, dances, workshops, topics and pictures. We are looking forward to your ideas for our free time and group activities. With your engagement our afternoons and evenings will be a great experience for all of us.
