Cemeteries as natural and cultural oases in the city
The Protestant Cemetery Association Stadtmitte is responsible for various cemeteries in the centre of Berlin. These are characterised by a wide variety of natural and man-made beauty.
During the work camp, beautiful tombstones and sculptures will be uncovered and cleaned. Old fence posts will be derusted and repainted. In addition to the monument preservation work, landscape maintenance and nature conservation work will also be carried out. Work will be carried out for 6 hours per day, e.g. 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. There will be a snack break in between! As the camp accommodation is not on the cemetery grounds but in the parish hall of the Protestant parish of St. Johannes, we will cycle to work (approx. 15 minutes each way!). Anyone who wants to take part in the camp must be able to ride a bike very well!
In the free time you spend together, you can quickly get to Berlin city centre with all its sights on foot, by bike or by public transport. Berlin’s surrounding countryside and Potsdam are also not far away! In good weather, there are opportunities for swimming and boating. In addition to the excursions, we plan group activities that depend on your interests and that you help to organise, e.g. with games, songs, music, dances, workshops, themes and photos that you bring along.
