Reborn in 1992 – The rescued village of Klitten builds for its future
The village of Klitten is located in the middle of the former Bärwalde open-cast coal mining area. Lignite was mined in the region from 1976 to 1992. Because the Bärwalde open pit mine was shut down ahead of schedule, it was possible to prevent the over-excavation of the village of Klitten (population approx. 1,500). Through recultivation and redevelopment of the mining area, an area with large lakes developed for tourism and local recreation.

The Protestant parish of Klitten is pleased to receive support for landscaping work on the parish’s properties. In addition, 2 parish rooms are to receive a new coat of paint. A fence around a church property and a newly plastered cemetery wall also need a new coat of paint. On another piece of wall, the plaster needs to be knocked off as preparatory work for further renovation.

The working time is in the period between 8 – 14 o’clock. Of course, there will be breaks during this time. In our free time we can go swimming, barbecue, play volleyball and table tennis, make music on the piano in the parish hall and play foosball and billiards in the parish youth room. An excursion to Berlin or Leipzig or Dresden as well as to the surrounding area (Görlitz) are being planned. The accommodation is in the parish hall. You need to bring a sleeping mat and a sleeping bag.

In addition to the excursions, we plan group activities that depend on your interests and that you help to shape, e.g. through games, songs, music, dances, workshops, themes, photos that you bring along.
